3rd Anniversary of Haiti Earthquake

The January 12, 2010 magitude 7.0 earthquake that struck Haiti killed hundreds of thousands of people and left one and a half million people homeless. Over the past 3 years more than 7 billion dollars has been spent on Haiti's recovery, much of it to provide temporary shelter and to feed, clothe, and provide medical attention to Haitians affected by the earthquake. Much of this work has been done by the more than 10,000 NGOs that operate in the region, a situation that is difficult to coordinate and to monitor. Given these challenges, many believe that the future of Haiti's recovery rests with strengthening and improving its governing institutions.
