More Rain Expected in Midwest Areas Hit By Floods

Forecasters are predicting heavy rains later this week in areas hard hit by flooding earlier in the month.  Record floods have hit Peoria, Beardstown and LaGrange, and other towns in the 48 counties traversed by the swollen Des Plaines, Fox, and Illinois Rivers.  The Mississippi River has caused moderate flooding in Kansas and Missouri– many of the same areas that had been impacted by severe drought since last spring.

The Union of Concerned Scientists reports that four deaths have caused by the flooding, and warns of lingering risks of drowning deaths, water contamination, and mold outbreaks.
