Cash, Food or Vouchers? October 23 Webinar Explores Controversies Surrounding Different Types of Food Aid

The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) invites the general public to a live webinar on the pros and cons of providing different forms of food aid: “Cash, Food or Vouchers?” The webinar will take place Wednesday, October 23 from 12:15 to 1:45 EDT and features panelists from IFPRI as well as the United Nations World Food Program. You may join the webinar by following this link.

The webinar will explore these different methods of “transfer modalities” based on a World Food Program study that assessed the three modalities in Ecuador, Uganda, Niger and Yemen using rigorous experimental design. The study found that there is no single “right” approach and “the relative effectiveness of different modalities depends heavily on contextual factors such as the severity of food insecurity and the functioning of markets for grains and other foods.”

Founded in 1975, the Washington, D.C.-based IFPRI seeks sustainable solutions for ending hunger and poverty and envisions a world free of hunger and malnutrition.
