Before Rio +20 Summit: High Hopes for Sustainable Development
Promoted as Rio+20: The Future We Want, the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD)- otherwise known as the Rio Earth Summit and the Rio +20 Summit- will be held from June 20-22, 2012 in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. This will mark the 20th anniversary of the historic Earth Summit (UNED), also held in Rio in 1992, the first large gathering of government and NGO representatives to discuss many ways humans impact the environment.
The 2012 conference makes sustainable development a top UN priority, and has sparked a global conversation on the kind of communities they would like to live in twenty years from now. The two themes are the transition to a Green economy and the creation of an institutional framework for sustainable development.
Here are videos from the UN organizations hosting and participating in the conference, as well as from NGOs attending. Standouts include the UN's Rio+20: The Future We Want and the Pew Foundation's Rio+20: Turn the Tide for Our Oceans.
